no scene
“Who is it that knows, there is no scene?”
Once and For All: There is No Scene:
There is no membership activity. We’ve all done our time with the punks, the Goths, the crusties, club scenes, art scenes, galleries & factories. You name it. We’ve done the tattoos, the hairdos, the scars and the steel till we all looked alike. Communist meetings, anarchist rallies, potlucks, back rooms, witches’ circles; all the underground credentials you could want. Having now safely returned to the helm we can report:
There wasn’t really anybody there….
- From the final issue of This is the Salivation Army, 1990*
Yes
Everything morphs back into the status quo. The first step to healing is understanding that all our rebellion will be marketed back to us. How long before we find that you can get tattoos and piercing at Wal-Mart? Stop looking for credibility, and find (and support) each other. We’re all pretending to be something. This is fine. As long as we don’t forget that we’re pretending. Do this. And escape the spiritual drain of corporate sorcery.
